UK and Egyptian universities join forces with British Council to provide access to knowledge and best practice at the forefront of the sustainable building industry in Egypt.
The building industry is considered the largest resource-consuming sector that has direct impact on Egypt’s economic stability and growth. However, professional training and education in sustainable development in Egypt is currently limited.
The BC-SDBE institutional link project, which is led by Dr. Heba Eihab Elsharkawy and Professor Hassan Abdalla of University of East London, in partnership with Ain Shams University, University of Strathclyde, and supported by the British Council, aims to build capacity in education, research and innovation while holistically exploiting the state-of-the art of the sustainable development strategies to meet socio-economic demands in Egypt.
The project is currently providing training and educational programmes to raise awareness, train various target groups on cutting-edge strategies and best practice of integrating sustainable development strategies in the built environment, from buildings, neighbourhoods to cities and regions. As part of its activities, an International Conference for Sustainable Design of the Built Environment will take place in London, UK, on 20 and 21 December 2017.
Architects, urban planners, building consultants, academics and researchers will get together to share the latest knowledge, research and innovations on low carbon building design, building performance, simulation tools and energy efficient building-related technologies.
