Balfour Beatty in joint venture with Places for People have got the green light to build the first phase of their 1500-homes development within the London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Plans for East Wick & Sweetwater new neighbourhoods, located on the western edge of the Olympic Park in London, were recently approved and construction will commence in the spring 2017.
Masterplan of the large residential-led development was designed by Sheppard Robson alongside Studio Egret West. It comprises a total of 1500 high architectural quality homes including 555 affordable homes plus 10,000m² of office space and 7,200m² of retail. The development will be constructed in phases over the next eight years.
Phase 1 will provide a vibrant urban environment with 300 new homes and over 3,000m2 of nursery, retail and employment interconnected to a series of public spaces offering easy access to the Park’s sport facilities, the newly opened Mossbourne Riverside Academy, and the River Lee Navigation canal.
A brilliant team of winning architectural practices including Studio Egret West (2 plots) A-Studio and Piercy & Company was assembled to ensure the delivery of the highest standards of design and sustainability of Phase 1. Fabrik was appointed for the landscape design across all the phases.
The first phase of East Wick & Sweetwater is expected to be completed by 2019.
Meanwhile, architects are already developing the Phase 2 design aiming to submit it for planning application in Summer 2017.
