GREEN LEADERS on Ongreening: Paul de Ruiter, Architect, Amsterdam

20 June 2014, 09:43 |

Paul established his own architectural practice in 1994 and since then he has developed cutting-edge sustainable projects focusing on a clear vision: Buildings should become energy producers instead of energy consumers. They can be made entirely self-sufficient”.

Sustainability is still often seen as expensive and unprofitable” adds Paul, “This idea is incorrect. For us sustainability is so natural that it is only logical that it is comprehensively integrated in all designs”.

Paul’s pioneering approach to sustainable architecture breaks through processes to develop unexpected and innovative solutions. He strongly believes that being proactive, involving all parties concerned in the process right from the start and encouraging inspired collaboration are crucial ingredients for achieving innovative architecture. Paul de Ruiter Architects make substantial investments in research & development, looking for an extra dimension in the architecture - for intelligent architecture, from which people receive energy, both literally and figuratively.

Paul has completed a wide range of innovative projects. Amongst his inspiring works, the TNT Centre in Hoofddorp, The Netherlands, one of the greenest office building in Europe, has recently earned the LEED Platinum certification.
