Green building sector to rapidly grow in India

10 July 2017, 09:29 |

Ongreening and SAIE introduce the excellence of Italian green building products and technologies to international buyers in India.

Three workshops focused on ‘Green Materials for Sustainable Building’ will take place in New Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai in July 10-12, 2017 thanks to the support of the Italian Trade Agency and ICE, in association with Griha and Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Marco Mari, president of the Ongreening advisory Board and former vice president of the Green Building Council Italia, will be among the senior key speakers. He will introduce the Ongreening Platform and ProductMAP, an innovative software technology which enable industry professionals to identify, compare, and specify building materials based on sustainability performances and green attributes.

The above will follow up on the tremendous success of the SAIE Innovation event, which was organised by Ongreening in partnership with SAIE, the Italian building industry leading trade fair, and the patronage of USGBC, IWBI, BRE and key professional institutions. Marco will also present the 28 Italian manufacturers selected for the "Best of SAIE Innovation" award for their innovative, sustainable and low environmental impact building solutions.

One of the SAIE Innovation award winners assessed by Ongreening and available on the innovative product directory ProductMAP.

Why green materials in India?

Global green building market continues soaking up large market share, doubling every three years and significantly increasing demand for green materials, products and technologies.
While the sustainable building industry is forecast to grow by 70% by 2025, worldwide, certified buildings, or those targeting green certification, under the most recognized green building rating systems have reached 3 billion square meters.

In India, the volume of green building is expected to rapidly expand in the immediate future reaching 20% of all building stock by 2018, according to a recent report published by USGBC.

"The rapidly dissemination of green building and energy performance rating systems across the industry, such as LEED, BREEAM, HQM and GRIHA, is fuelling the demand for eco-friendly construction products - the Italian Trade Agency explains - by transforming this new market ‘niche’ in a trillion-dollar industry. A surge that is leading to a corresponding increase in the scope and size of the global green building materials market, which is expected to reach $234 billion by 2019 and to exceed $364.6 billion by 2022 (Allied Market Research, 2015).

Why Italy?

Italy is spokesman throughout the world for the values associated with the design and production of Italian-made goods and architecture, has strong competencies in a variety of green building materials, products and Systems, such as Perilite core bricks, eco-friendly flooring solutions, natural material, building systems, also with use of recycled materials.
Also, a pioneer in innovative processing of materials, there are many technologies Italy has to offer, such as new ways to produce existing materials, creating entirely new usable materials out of what would have been otherwise waste materials and pioneering low maintenance, ultra-durable, new materials, products and systems which have a positive green impact.
Adding a new dimension, there is a bouquet of sustainable building products, materials, components and technologies developed in Italy, a heritage of knowledge and skill, which improve the green quotient of existing brownfield buildings or the sustainable competencies in design teams for new buildings, thereby adding immense value to a wide range of projects.
