China Pavilion is one of the most iconic pavilion Expo Milano 2015

It merges the profile of a city skyline with the silhouette of a rolling landscape, conveying an expression of hope that cities and nature can co-exist in harmony.

It’s the China Pavilion, also named “the Land of Hope”, one of the most iconic architectures featured at the Expo Milano 2015.

Designed by Tsinghua University and Studio Link-Arc for the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, the Pavilion is drawing worldwide appreciation for its design.
It creates a serene, organic setting for visitors to explore Chinese culture. “We highlighted the experience and quality of the space. For us, this is the most important part of the building,” said architect Yichen Lu, associate professor at Tsinghua University and principal of New York City-based architecture firm Studio Link-Arc.

Visitors enter the pavilion by descending into a planted field, which immerses them in a landscape removed from the bustling fairgrounds. This landscape is sheltered by a floating roof made of renewable materials including glulam timber, bamboo and wheat straw.

The Pavilion’s design references traditional Chinese architecture but is built using advanced engineering and construction techniques. The large, airy interior public spaces are filled with sunlight. The structure contains a series of interactive exhibitions, including a large LED-technology video installation that depicts images of China.

Expo Milano 2015 is the Universal Exposition which takes place this year in Milan, Italy. The event, which has recently opened its door to visitors, focuses on the official theme of Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. Until October 2015, Expo Milano 2015 will engage more than 20 million of visitors with a unique journey that looks at the complex theme of nutrition.
