Casa Incubo: shipping container house

04 January 2015, 09:09 |

Maria José Trejos turns shipping containers in a sustainable and comfortable house in Costa Rica.

"Several considerations were taken into account so that the house had the least possible environmental impact, both in design, materials and systems for energy conservation" explains the architect, Maria José.

"The idea of using containers also had to do with sustainability," says Trejos. "While inside were coated gypsum, outside the containers are left in their original state. Even the gates they bring originally used ". Using these modules in construction gives a rich contrast to the design, says the architect, "reusing an item already produced, generating less CO2 emissions than to work only with cement and transportation to haul all traditional materials, not to mention a land movement less invasive."

Thus, after an inspiring journey, ended up convinced: House Incubus is able to reinvent itself many times as needed, resulting in an enclosure that is ideal for the needs, ambitions and aspirations of those who inhabit it. By reusing transport objects, costs were minimized and the completion time was shortened by 20%.

To reduce the impact of solar irradiation, the house is provided by deep overhangs and bamboo screens.

Additionally, renewable, reusable or recyclable materials that were durable and low maintenance were chosen.
