BRE joins IWBI to align WELL and BREEAM

16 December 2016, 10:17 |

BRE and the International WELL Building Institute have announced an agreement aimed at advancing the inclusion of health and wellbeing considerations in the built environment.

The two organisations will work closely to identify specific credits between the two standards which can be mutually recognised in order to facilitate the achievement of both WELL and BREEAM certifications.
BREEAM and WELL are both evidence-based systems used to measure buildings’ environmental and sustainability performances.

“We believe sustainability and health are synonymous. We look forward to partnering with BRE to advance this important concept by helping project teams who are using both BREEAM and WELL deliver a more sustainable and healthier built environment as efficiently as possible." explained Rick Fedrizzi, chairman and CEO, IWBI.

The partnership follows the increasing interest of the building industry in the impact of building on the health and wellbeing of its occupants.
Initial outcome of the collaboration is expected by January 2017.
