PROFILE

Henning Larsen Architects is a Scandinavian practice established by Henning Larsen in 1959 and today employs a staff of more than 250 people. The company has offices in Copenhagen, Oslo, the Faroe Islands, Munich, Istanbul, Riyadh and Hong Kong. Henning Larsen Architects works with people, space and daylight as key drivers in a multi-disciplinary design process. The projects aim to create value for all stakeholders and become a part of the local context. In 2013, Henning Larsen Architects won one of the most prestigious architectural awards worldwide, the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – the Mies van der Rohe Award 2013 for the concert and conference hall Harpa in Iceland. Henning Larsen Architects has designed a number of distinctive cultural projects in addition to widely recognized educational and commercial buildings. Common to all projects is a particular focus on social, community-creating spaces promoting informal interaction and academic knowledge-sharing across subject areas. Another key feature about the projects is their focus on large open spaces engaging in close interaction with the surrounding city space. Among current international projects, you find the new extensive research campus of the Norwegian University of Life Sciences at Campus Ås in Oslo, Norway, and European Spallation Source (ESS) at Lund University, Sweden, which will become the world's largest and most advanced research facility for neutron-based research. And outside Scandinavia, you find projects such as Siemens’ new global headquarters in Munich, Germany; King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia; Calabar International Convention Centre in Nigeria; and Yuhang Cultural Centre in China.
